It Can Happen Here

Choreographers: Audra Sokol, Rebecca Pappas and Melanie Swihart

This dance piece focused on the idea of otherness, and willful ignorance to wrongdoing. The title is a response to the political novel It Couldn't Happen Here, sharing the central idea that while Americans might believe they are above terrible atrocities, reality proves otherwise. Our focus for this piece was to reinforce the sense of crowding and ordered chaos in modern life. Video of the dance itself was shot from various angles and occasionally reversed to build the size of the crowd and provide additional points of view, and was projected onto the rough, rear wall of the theatre above the dancer's heads.
