Twelfth Night

Twelfth Night

Playwright: William Shakespeare
Director: Dee Dee Batteast

Twelfth Night is one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies, weaving a tale of mistaken identities, unrequited love, and the folly of ambition. Set in the enchanting land of Illyria, the play follows Viola, who disguises herself as a man after being shipwrecked, only to find herself entangled in a love triangle involving the noble Duke Orsino and the grieving Lady Olivia. With its witty dialogue, memorable characters, and themes of love and self-discovery, *Twelfth Night* continues to captivate audiences with its timeless charm and humor.

Set in the 1920s, our production embraced a stylish yet somewhat ageless aesthetic. Modern music with vintage stylings added a unique flair, with Duke Orsino often accompanied by Rex Orange County. The clowns performed brass covers of popular music, including "Helter Skelter" by Lucky Chops, and the show concluded with a triumphant dance number to "Best Friend" by Rex Orange County. This blend of modern and vintage elements created a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere that resonated with audiences.
